NID Division 2 — 2026
A Farmer. A Neighbor. A Fighter for Your Water.
James Smith has worked this land his whole life. Now he's running for the NID Division 2 board to make sure the people who depend on this water have a real voice.
James Smith's Story
Born and Raised on This Land
I've been a farmer my whole life. I was raised caring for cattle and working the land that supports them — and I know better than most what it means when water rates go up, when raw water allocations get cut, or when the board makes decisions without ever asking the people who actually depend on the district.
Farming teaches you something that no boardroom ever will: water is not a commodity. It is the foundation of everything we grow, everything we raise, and every family that calls this region home. When that foundation is threatened, you don't sit on the sidelines.
That's why I'm running. Not for politics. Not for a title. But because ratepayers in Division 2 deserve someone on that board who has actually felt the weight of a water bill, who has watched a pasture dry up, and who will stand up — loudly and without apology — for the farmers, ranchers, and families this district is supposed to serve.
What I Stand For
My Commitments to Division 2
Stand Up for Ratepayers
I will fight against unjustified rate increases and demand that every dollar collected from ratepayers is spent wisely, transparently, and in their interest.
Protect Treated & Raw Water Rights
Treated and raw water allocations must be managed fairly and with full accountability. I will push back on any policy that shortchanges Division 2 users.
Farmers & Ranchers First
The people who work this land are the backbone of our community. Their needs will always come first in every vote I cast on the board.
Full Transparency
No backroom deals. No rubber-stamping. Every decision I make on the board will be open, explained, and accountable to the people of Division 2.
"This community deserves a board member who actually works the land."
